The Destin Amberjack season is upon us and they have been on fire lately. We made it out to the Gulf of Mexico and fished steel wrecks in 75-125′ of water. We used live Hardtails as bait and the tackle included Shimano Saragosa 8000. Per the FWC, Destin Amberjack or Gulf of Mexico Amberjack, have to be 34″ at the fork to be harvested and one per person. Within 20 minutes of arriving to our spot in the Gulf of Mexico, we hit jack pot! Our first fish to the boat was over 38″ at the fork; on top of that, it was our only lady angler on the vessel that reeled it and got it to the boat without breaking off.
We hooked up on several more Destin Amberjack throughout the day; however, due to size limits and some breaking off the line; we did not harvest any other Amberjack that day. We also harvested one King Mackerel that our long-time friend, Dr. Scotty, hooked up. He brought the King Mackerel to the boat with ease. We then moved a little more inshore to target Trigger Fish.
Per FWC regulations, there are a ton of different species in season right now; the weather is just getting warmed up and the fish are on fire! We suggest calling and booking your inshore fishing charter now at 850-226-3127
Tight Lines,
